Hey Fashionistas/os! My name is Kianna Green and I am a junior at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. I am majoring in Business Administrations and minoring in Finance. This is my first time as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I am beyond excited to start writing!
Throughout the school year, I currently go back and forth between playing on the women’s soccer team at Concordia, shopping online and hanging out with friends. Reality TV is my guilty pleasure and I love creating different fashion styles on Polyvore.
My love for fashion and styling didn’t start until I was in middle school. I grew up as a tomboy who always played sports. I remember every day in kindergarten I would wear my brother’s hand-me-down Levi Brand Jeans and a crewneck sweatshirt. I seriously looked like my brother! I eventually made the transition from tomboy to actual girl during the sixth grade, caring more about what I wore and how I presented myself in public. In middle school, I became obsessed with fashion related books like The Clique and Pretty Little Liars. I also loved watching TV shows like Gossip Girl and idolized Blair Waldorf and Serena Vanderwoodsen for their incredible fashion styles. All of these things introduced me to the world of fashion and ever since then, I knew that working in fashion was my calling.
Over the past year, I have really refined my personal style. I would say my style is edgy, yet chic. I love leather jackets, black ankle booties and high-waist skinny jeans. Whenever I put together an outfit, I pull inspiration from many celebrities, TV shows and blogs. My main style icons are Nicole Richie, Ashley Benson and Mary-Kate Olsen. Over the years, I have become a loyal follower to brands like Givenchy, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Alexander McQueen and AllSaints. I also love reading blogs like The Coveteur and fashion magazines like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.
The one thing I really love about fashion is that you can create your own personal style. I believe that fashion is what you buy and style is what you do with it. Stella McCartney has said that, “personal style starts from within because it is an attitude and philosophy. If you’re honest and true to yourself, then you will have the best sense of personal style.” I couldn’t agree more with her words. I love fashion because it allows me to express who I am and how I feel.
