STYLE GURU BIO: Danielle Gervasi

Hey y’all! My name is Danielle Gervasi, and this is my first semester as a Style Guru. I’m a senior at Texas State University majoring in Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Business Administration. I chose Texas State because this school has the best Fashion Merchandising program in the whole state and gives us amazing opportunities. I’m a Delta Gamma and am part of the Fashion Merchandising Association on campus. My plan after graduation is to move back to my hometown of New York City to work towards my goal of becoming a stylist.

What got me interested in fashion was my childhood dream of becoming a model. That dream was short-lived by working locally for a photographer, but the whole experience made me realize that being part of the fashion industry is what I’m meant to do, particularly styling. I’ve always been the friend in the group to give people makeovers and to help pick outfits for important events. I love making people feel confident while showing off my creativity.

My style, as my sister and I describe, is an emo hippie. I love to wear dark or neutral colors (usually black), leather and fringe—basically anything edgy. I also love floral and tribal prints and flowy maxi skirts. A current fad of mine has been wearing crop tops and high-waisted shorts. However, I will admit that I do own a pair of cowboy boots and don’t exactly hate wearing them every now and then. Living in the south for a few years does that to you. I also love incorporating the grunge look into my style. I don’t usually wear accessories because I like more of the minimalist look. However, if I do it’s only one or two items, usually a statement necklace. I love shopping around at local boutiques, Forever 21, H&M, Hot Topic, A’GACI and Love Culture. I also love wearing vintage clothes, which are usually borrowed from my mom’s closet.

How I found my style is quite interesting. When I was in elementary and middle school, my mom would choose the clothes I wore. Usually it consisted of the color pink, flowers or paisley, and on top of that, I looked identical to my older sister. The summer before high school I had a growth spurt and couldn’t fit into any of my clothing. My mom finally let me decide what I could wear, so I decided to do the complete opposite, which, of course, was the goth look. Most of my friends were into that style so that played a big part in it as well. Throughout high school I constantly experimented with my look with almost every style in the book. Finally in college, I found my style and have stuck with it ever since!

I can’t wait to start posting and to be a part of such an amazing company! I hope y’all enjoy my articles!
