Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Devon McCaffrey and I am a junior at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. I am studying Fashion Merchandising with a concentration in Product Development. I am beyond ecstatic to start my internship experience with CollegeFashionista this summer and write about all of the rad Fashionistas/os I encounter!
I have been a dancer since I could stand—literally. My first memory was standing on stage at my dance recital, with the lights blaring and the crowd cheering. Being surrounded by dancers and costumes throughout my childhood greatly influenced my interest in fashion. My fondness of flashy and over-the-top ensembles stemmed from my fascination with performance and the idea that the way you dressed could express so many different things.
For the past 19 years, I have never been able to successfully define my personal style. If I could pick two favorite items from my wardrobe, they would be a floral frock and thrifted T-shirt; two pieces on two complete opposite ends of the spectrum. I have grown to like the ambiguity of my style because I think it sets me apart from everyone else. The fabulous Rachel Zoe once said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” I believe it is important to give yourself free reign when it comes to making fashion choices because it allows you to express your individuality without hesitation or apology, and where would fashion be without individuality?
My interests outside of fashion include the three G’s: Glee, Grey’s Anatomy and Gossip Girl, as well as Instagram, coffee and anything that has to do with Broadway. I get inspired by the fashions of my favorite TV shows, movies and plays all the time, and have developed an interest in the area of costuming.
I hoped to be a Style Guru with CollegeFashionista because I love the idea of showcasing the unique and noteworthy fashions of the people around us. I am thrilled that I will have the opportunity to explore the wonderful world of styles around me as a Style Guru this summer. Check out my posts every Monday to keep up with all the stylish and one-of-a-kind Fashionistas/os I encounter!
