If I could go back in a time machine and tell freshman Marlene just one thing about college it’d be: work hard and stop being so cocky. My freshman year at the University of New Mexico was a fluke, to say the least. By the time summer came around I had lost the scholarship I relied on. Scared and upset with myself, I secretly enrolled in a summer class with the goal of raising my GPA and getting my scholarship back. And I did. That was year one—a really bad start. But it gave me the vigor to put my back into it for year two.
I never saw myself as too fashionable or qualified enough to blog about fashion, but I realized I loved it. And also, that I still kind of sucked at it. But like anything, the only way to improve is to throw yourself into it. So I applied to CollegeFashionista, feeling underqualified, but ambitious. And now, almost a year later, here I am writing my last post for CollegeFashionista. While I still feel under-qualified for the real world, I’ve learned a lot in my time with CollegeFashionista. Like Birkenstocks are apparently totally acceptable to wear in public now—but, really. My time at CollegeFashionista has been a flash of exciting opportunities and chances to learn and grow with the site. But now it’s over. A lot of things are ending for me.
That’s not a bad thing, endings are good. As things come to an end here, I’ll be moving on to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film and digital media. I’m also super thrilled to be going back to the LA Film Fest Event Coverage team. And hopefully, I’ll also work on a few more shorts with my friends.
