STYLE GURU BIO: Myesha Galvin

Hey guys, I’m Myesha! Currently, I am working towards my BA in Fashion Business at Columbia College Chicago. I’m excited to say that this is my first semester being a CollegeFashionista Style Guru!

Since the age of seven, I’ve always known that the fashion and beauty industry was for me. Having a strong love for the latest fashion and beauty trends, some may be shocked to know I also have a passion for photography. It all started with my grandpa giving my aunt her first camera. I fell in love with watching her capture the emotions of her objects and connecting with them; each picture told an unique story. I wanted that same feeling she gained after seeing her work. So I decided to enroll into my first photography class in high school, and from there, the rest was history. Styling my friends and having the opportunity to tell their stories through my pictures is an amazing feeling.

I love using my talents and passions to teach others how to shop on a budget and still make a fashion statement while having fun. Whether it is doing first impression videos for a product, showing how to style a basic pair of jeans for an everyday look or sharing my experience with having big natural hair, I enjoy showing you how to just be true to yourself and laugh things off. On top of going to school and styling, I am also a YouTube fashion, natural hair, beauty and entertainment vlogger.

Growing up, my mom dressed me in the boldest, brightest clothing. Her goal was to start trends and to make a statement; that’s where I learned that being different was a good thing. However, during junior high, I started to only wear hoodies. I know it sounds strange, since I am in love with fashion. However, I was subconscious about certain parts of my body and being a curvy girl. I wanted to hide my curves, but at the same time I was helping others become more confident and accepting of themselves. It wasn’t until my senior year in high school that I realized I was going about it the wrong way. I needed to show girls to love themselves, but I needed to start loving myself first.

I can’t say I truly have a set style, because I can be urban or edgy one day and the next very girly. My theory is, if I like it and I feel comfortable in it, I’m buying it. Currently, I’ve been gravitating towards shades of grays, black, blush, cream and for my pop of “color,” cheetah print! On an average day, you’ll see a loud, goofy girl wearing her big curly hair with a cheetah print bow. I’ll throw on my favorite boyfriend jeans from American Eagle Outfitters, a pair of Sperry Top-Siders and a cute denim chambray.

I’m so excited to take on this journey and to now say I am a fashion blogger, I can’t wait to meet so many wonderful people!
