Hello fellow Fashionistas/os! I’m Bethany and I’m a 19-year-old city gal living it up in Chicago, Illinois. As a current freshman at DePaul University, I’m majoring in Public Relations and Advertising with a minor in Marketing. I have developed a love for the PR field, specifically social media, so you can often catch me on Instagram or Twitter checking out the latest news on my favorite celebrities and brands. I hope to one day combine my two passions and work in fashion PR in NYC or L.A., but until then, I’m looking forward to providing you all with insight into the fashion world as trends and my own style change and evolve!
My style is greatly influenced by what I see celebrities wearing on social media and in magazines. One of my main style icons is Lauren Conrad because her style is classic. She knows how to dress-up or dress-down essential pieces like a cashmere sweater or skinny jeans, and always has a fabulous pair of sunglasses with a matching handbag. Another person I look to for style inspiration is Kendall Jenner. Her style is high fashion and edgy without being too impractical for everyday life. I normally look to her when figuring out how to adapt a runway trend to an everyday outfit. In addition to celebrity influences, my style is also developed from what I see around the city. Since moving to Chicago, I have definitely added more black and leather to my wardrobe, and have also established key pieces that are important to splurge on. These key pieces include a black leather jacket, Ray-Ban aviators, Frye black leather motorcycle boots, a black cross-body bag and dark wash skinny jeans. With these pieces, I am ready to conquer the city.
Speaking of my wardrobe essentials, above you can see one of the ways I like to incorporate them into my everyday style. With the temperature constantly fluctuating during springtime in Chicago, it can be challenging to embrace seasonal trends while also staying warm. Here, I’m wearing one of spring’s biggest trends, the maxi skirt, while also adapting it to the cooler temperatures with leather boots and a leather jacket. In terms of accessories, a gold statement necklace and watch help to brighten up the neutrals and overall complete the outfit. Lastly, I added my signature aviators for both functional and fashion purposes. I never leave home without these shades, and I definitely recommend for everyone to find their go-to accessory for each outfit.
I’m so thrilled to start this exciting journey as a Style Guru, and I can’t wait to share my fashion knowledge with you all. Therefore, please make sure to read my articles each Thursday as I find inspiration throughout the DePaul community!
