Hello Fashionistas/os, my name is Keishorea Armstrong and I am a sophomore, student-athlete at Binghamton University. I am a double major in English and Africana Studies with a passion for literature and of course, fashion!
Fashion and I were not always in such a serious relationship. Let’s just say, growing up my wardrobe was almost entirely comprised of basketball shorts, baggy T-shirts and sneakers (not the cute kind). Dresses were a definite no and no matter the occasion, heels were never an option. Since then, my style has evolved from lazy tomboy to “fabletic!” I figured since athletics and fashion are equally a part of who I am, why try to surrender one when I can have them both? Though I could never get rid of my sneaker addiction, heels have become increasingly essential to my growing repertoire. Being tall and skinny, I wasn’t always comfortable being the tallest person in the room but fashion has allowed me to take on the world clothed in nothing more than confidence and a killer attitude. After all fashion isn’t just a look, it’s an identity.
Today’s sporty-chic look is the epitome of “fabletic.” I chose an all-black ensemble because you can never go wrong with black. Not only is it slimming, but it also allows you to experiment with bold accessories to spice up your outfit. I styled my origami mini skort with an acid wash dark denim button-down. Accessorizing is all about finding that perfect balance of statement pieces and subtle accents. Personally, I try not to have more than one or two statement pieces because they can distract from your outfit rather than complement it. For instance, I kept it simple with my jewelry but threw in my bright red handbag for a pop of color. I completed this look with my favorite pair of sneakers (I guess some things just never change). As an added tip, try throwing on your favorite pair of heels with a bold lip to transform this look into one that is ready for a rad night out!
