Hi Everyone! My name is Madison Dick and I’m a junior at the University of Minnesota studying Journalism and Psychology. I’m so excited to start my first semester with CollegeFashionista! One of my professors told me about this amazing opportunity this spring and I knew I just had to apply. Fashion has always been a huge part of my life. I am the oldest of three sisters and shopping and clothes have constantly been one of our main interests. Growing up in the Twin Cities, we spent our weekends at the Mall of America, perusing the Nordstrom shoe section. We were there so often we even developed friendships with the sales people!
Now as a college student, my college budget doesn’t exactly allow me to buy shoes from Nordstrom whenever I feel like it, so my style has adjusted some since becoming a student. I’ve been looking for the deals and searching for basics that you can wear more than once without people noticing that you’ve doubled up on an outfits.
The key to my ensemble is the comfy/casual/I-woke-up-like-this-look, without actually waking up like that. I love big white T-shirts, jeans and Birkenstocks and I typically mix up my look by adding a flannel around my waist. I am a firm believer that you can never have too many flannels. The flannel is the perfect way to ease into summer. If it’s nice out you can leave it around your waist, but if the weather changes, like it does so often in Minnesota, you can put it on and stay warm. It’s the perfect addition to our fickle climate.
With accessories, I like to keep it simple. I always wear my Marc by Marc Jacobs watch, along with an Alex and Ani bracelet. These slight accessories make a subtle statement while remaining simple, and have become my signature look. My Marc by Marc Jacobs watch isn’t exactly a part of my strict college budget; however, I believe it’s okay to splurge every once and a while on something as timeless and necessary as a watch.
My ultimate goal in the fashion industry is to write for Cosmopolitan and I feel that getting comfortable approaching trendy students on campus and writing about their looks will give me the confidence and the fashion literacy I need to potentially achieve my dreams. I absolutely love fashion and I’m so excited to be a part of CollegeFashionista. Get ready to follow my posts every Tuesday this summer!
