STYLE GURU BIO: Jennifer Jenkins

Since starting my internship as a Style Guru this past spring, I have only become more certain of my goal to earn a career in the fashion industry. There is not a day that goes by when I do not check out new trends on Style.com or pick up a women’s fashion magazine. With so many talented Style Gurus, it is a true privilege to be able to publish articles alongside these gifted writers who have valuable insight on relevant trends.

I think that it is hard to describe my style in one or even a few words. On some days, I feel like Carrie Bradshaw, and on others I feel like Jackie O’. While I may be drawn to a pink tulle skirt one day, I may be infatuated with a navy blue blazer the next. I tend to be drawn to things that are characteristically feminine like lace shorts, pastel espadrilles, floral prints and the occasional bow. I admire things that are as whimsical and glamorous as the 1920s-inspired Marchesa fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection and looks that are as bright and bubbly as the spring 2015 ready-to-wear Moschino collection, where everything screamed Barbie. So, while it may be difficult to define my style as just novel, timeless or luxurious, I think that the ability to experiment with different styles is precisely what makes fashion so fun. We can choose looks that can represent our lighthearted, charming and serious sides without having to define ourselves as strictly preppy, boho or minimalist.

I chose this look for my STYLE GURU BIO because I feel that the little details and overall look go with my optimistic, girly and eclectic personality. I love the bright floral print on this skirt and the contrasts between the various hues of coral, black, purple and gray. After looking at many resort collections, such as this alice + olivia 2015 collection, coral seems to be a trend this summer, so I thought it fitting to emphasize this color in my printed skirt by wearing an off shoulder crop top. I also love the small peak of black tulle that pops out of the bottom of the skirt and the black bow belt gives the outfit an extra feminine touch. I have heard that you can tell a lot about a person by the shoes that they wear, so I thought it appropriate to wear a trendy wedge that was all together clean and interesting.

I cannot wait to see what this summer holds for me as a Style Guru. It has been so much fun to seek out fashionable students on campus in addition to experimenting with my own style. Even though trends may change, style is defined by the person wearing the clothing, and I am looking forward to learning more about both of these things through this internship!
