My name is Emily, and I am so excited to be back as a Temple University Style Guru! I am going into my senior year (seriously, where did the time go?), and I couldn’t pick a better way to document my last year at this school than with CollegeFashionista. I started my first semester as a Style Guru a year ago when I found out about CollegeFashionista on Twitter and applied. It made my summer way more interesting and made me more aware of the creativity that is around me and not just in the magazines or Instagram feed that I am constantly updating.
Speaking of Instagram, I’m a big fan, along with reality TV and shoes. I have always loved shoes, and I can imagine I always will. Shoes have always been a focus in my closet, while other people enjoy purses or jewelry. The number one thing I love about shoes is that you can build an outfit literally from the ground up. Honestly, that is how I pick my outfit no matter what the occasion. This is not saying it won’t take me forever to get ready. I have a track record of being the first to start getting ready and the last to walk out the door, but it’s always fun, especially when there’s a new pair of shoes involved.
Along with my love for shoes, I have almost the same amount of love for reality TV. Unfortunately, I watch or have watched anything on Bravo or E! for awhile. It is just something that I have on. I also enjoy the ridiculousness of the Real Housewives and the amazing shoe closets of the Kardashians. I have watched Keeping Up with the Kardashians for too long, but one thing I can say is that their style has evolved immensely in the years. Their wardrobe on the show and even on their Instagrams are impressive.
The love that fashion has been part of my life for a long time. It’s a great way for individuals to express themselves, and there isn’t a set way to achieve style. You create it yourself and how it works with your personality. I am thrilled to see what style I will see around campus while having a great summer! As Coco Chanel once said: “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
