Hey ya’ll! My name is Chiamaka but I’m known around campus as China or Chia (Pet). I am a senior at Texas State University and I am majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Biology. I come from a long line of doctors and pharmacists, but my passion has always laid elsewhere. I started my college career as a nursing student at the University of Texas at El Paso and after a few years of absolutely hating it, my parents (finally) agreed to let me change my major and transfer schools. If it wasn’t for me coming to Texas State, I never would of found out about this amazing company!
I come from a strict Nigerian background. I grew up being told all of the things that I’m not “allowed” to do—no tattoos, no piercings, no crazy hairstyles. Naturally, I rebelled (obviously). It’s through the things that I am told that I can’t do that fosters my fashion inspirations. I was told that girls with dark skin can’t wear crazy colored lipstick and if anything, that is what I’m known for. I take pride in doing things others wouldn’t dare to do and drawing inspirations from all aspects of life—my traditional Nigerian culture, nature, music videos—anything that I come in contact with serves as a potential fashion inspiration.
This is my second term with CollegeFashionista and I am beyond ready and excited to meet new people around campus. Although I study at Texas State, I am back home in El Paso for the summer and taking classes at UTEP for the duration of this internship. I love meeting new and daring individuals; people who aren’t afraid to push the boundaries of their comfortable closets and be the center of attention of any room they step in to.
I look forward to getting into the CollegeFashionista groove again, and I hope to see you all around campus!
