Hello fellow Fashionistas/os, my name is Megan Honan. I am a third year Journalism student minoring in Public Relations at Ryerson University in Toronto.
This is my first semester with the CollegeFashionista team, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I am such a huge fan of street style photography and have been an avid reader of The Sartorialist, which inspired me to take on a similar role (sorry friends, my photography skills are not yet on par, but I’m working on it). I hope this new journey will allow me to not only refine my journalistic skills, but also hone and fine-tune my love for photojournalism.
Toronto is the most inspiring city, with its own unique and vibrant culture. I never knew I could love a place as much as I love tea, but it turns out it is possible. I hope that through my camera lens I offer a small window into the place that has my whole heart and the individuals that fill the streets.
I am constantly seeking inspiration, whether it be architecture, an editorial in a magazine or the ever popular Pinterest. I believe when you are inspired, you inspire others and that truly makes for a better world. Also, in case you couldn’t tell, I foremost believe in looking at the world through rose-tinted glasses—trust me, the world is suddenly a much rosier place.
I would describe my personal style as feminine, colourful and classic. I believe in investing in timeless pieces that will grow with you and limiting the number of trendy pieces in your closet. Furthermore, I am an absolute lipstick hoarder—any and all colors are great in my book. If you are nervous to try it, take Nike’s advice and, well, just do it. Since starting university, I think it is undeniable my style has changed, and I now have a stronger grasp on the message I wish to portray to the world.
Ryerson has become well known in Toronto, not only for the hands-on programs, but also for the impeccably dressed students. Everyone seems to have their own look, and I believe it motivates fellow students to seek out their own look. I equally preach the statement in dressing for the job that you want, not the job you have. So while we may be students, what better time than now to start planning for the dream career you have always wanted and show the world what kind of professional you intend on being? As fellow Ryerson students would say, put your best heel forward.
