STYLE GURU BIO: Kenzie Levy

My name is Kenzie Levy, and I am a rising sophomore at Trinity College. I am currently planning on pursuing a triple major in English, Film Studies and Media Studies. I am incredibly excited to spend my summer at Trinity working as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru intern in order to document and comment on the stylistic variety displayed on Trinity’s campus. Since I have an immense love and passion for both photography and writing, I cannot wait to embark on crafting my Style Guru portfolio.

I have been interested in fashion since I was a child. I used to beg my mom to take me to the mall on the weekends, and when I had exhausted of that routine (since the stores weren’t constantly displaying new articles of clothing), I would pour through magazine upon magazine, perusing various issues of Vogue, InStyle and ELLE magazine. I have also known for a very long time that I wanted to pursue a career in the magazine industry. Around the age of seven, I began to scrapbook mock-magazines with pictures that I had drawn, incorporating headlines that applied to different family events that were transpiring.

When it comes to fashion, I have learned that the way that I dress acts as an expression of my personality and a reflection of myself. When I purchase new clothes, I view these acquisitions as additions to the overall collection that is my wardrobe. As a lover of art, I view my body as a canvas, and my clothes and accessories as the various paints and paintbrushes; each outfit is a piece that adds to the portfolio that is my closet. Since I love to meet new people and connect with them about their own personal style, I am excited for this internship because it gives me the opportunity to discover other unique views regarding fashion.

I am hoping to encounter Fashionistas/os who have broken Trinity’s typical style mold, and are bold with their fashion choices. I think that it is particularly inspiring to view a differentiation in fashion choices while walking across campus, and in the words of Coco Chanel, “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.”

As for my own personal style, I would describe it as “classically eclectic,” since I tend to incorporate a lot of simple and timeless pieces with more unique and eccentric ones. I love to take floral dresses and mix them with edgy accessories, such as a studded wrap bracelet or gladiator sandals. I also love pieces of clothing that can mix and match in order to create different styles of outfits. For example, this leather jacket is made edgier because it is paired with a black and white geometric top, but the entire outfit maintains a “classic” feel by featuring a pair of Jack Rogers sandals.

I cannot wait to feature my fellow Bantams! Check out my column every Thursday!
