Hey there, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Kara Ng and I just finished my junior year at St. John’s University where I am studying Public Relations and Event Management. I’ve always followed CollegeFashionista and from the Instagram pictures to the Snapchats, I am nothing but ecstatic to be part of the team as a Style Guru. I can’t wait to put my thoughts and feelings about fashion into words for you to read!
I was born and raised in New York City, the city where 800 different languages are spoken, according to a BuzzFeed video I watched recently. I’ve grown up around a mixture of people and around a mixture of style. I wasn’t really into fashion until my junior year of high school; before that I was more of a tomboy, not caring about the way I dressed. As I got older, I grew to understand my own sense of style and how to express myself through my outfits.
On my days off I’m either in my bed watching reruns and YouTube videos or I’m out and about wandering the streets of Manhattan. Recently, I’ve started to take an interest in art exhibits and galleries. Although I may not be able to understand and fully appreciate art like an artist, I’ve grown to recognize and respect it. I’ve been hanging around Chelsea more often since a lot of galleries are there. Brunch is my favorite meal and eggs Benedict is my favorite dish! Since the weather is finally getting nicer, I’ve been brunching almost every weekend. One of my favorite spots is Mezetto, which is on the corner of Houston and Allen Street. Since I’m in my 20s I’ve started to develop a serious case of wanderlust and I want to travel the world!
Being a very punctual person, I am always waiting on friends so why not people watch as I wait? I gain a lot of inspiration from seeing Fashionistas walk past me. When in Manhattan, people watching is definitely one of my favorite pastimes. Now CollegeFashionista gives me the opportunity to capture these Fashionistas’ moments!
A new season means new fashion trends and one of my favorite summer trends has got to be fringe! Check out these heels, bag and shirt. An instant splash of sass is added to your outfit by wearing fringe; it adds a bit attitude and personality to your walk. Fringe is a must, especially in shoes and accessories for the summer.
I look forward to being a Style Guru and can’t wait to share the styles I come across. I hope my posts will inspire you lovely Fashionistas!
