Hey y’all! My name is Caryn Lee, and I will be a junior this coming fall at the University of Alabama. I’m majoring in Apparel Design and Fashion Marketing along with a minor in Business. This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista, and I cannot wait for what it holds.
I was born in Torrance, California in the county of Los Angles and lived there until I went off to college. California is a big part of who I am, and it has led me to fall in love with the variety of art forms. Fashion has always been a love of mine for as long as I can remember, and it has grown into an addiction I feed with an extreme shopping problem and hours spent on WWD, Fashionista.com and Stylesight. I always knew I would make it a career, and even though I have no idea what the career will be, I know it’ll be what I love.
Living in Southern California allowed me to truly appreciate and embrace individuality. My mother raised me to follow what I love and to try new things. And although I am your typical girly girl, I do love camping and have a black belt in Tae Kwan Do. It really has allowed me to embrace fashion and the arts for as long as I remember.
The best part of fashion is getting to show off who you are; your body is a canvas, so make it a masterpiece that you love. I absolutely believe that you dress to make yourself happy, not to gain attention or because society tells you to, so be who you are. I dress to express how I feel; I have an extreme variety of personalities in my closet, from my favorite leather jacket to my boho dresses. Sometimes I just like to mix the two together. This outfit definitely follows that girly boho style with the Free People dress, fringe bag and floppy felt hat paired with simple metallic shoes, but I wanted to add an edge to it, so I wore my favorite thing to add to an outfit, a statement necklace.
I really look forward to this summer and what it holds, especially since I won’t be in classes and won’t have to wear the “sorority uniform.” With my study abroad in July, I can’t wait to share with y’all the lovely fashions of the students at Central Saint Martins in London and to gain some knowledge from the school that held wonderful students such as Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Stella McCartney and Christopher Kane. I’m excited to share my experiences through the lovely cities of my home in Los Angeles and my favorite city of London. It seems this summer will be one of the best yet!
