Fashionistas have always loved lace, but contrary to popular belief, lace is not reserved for bohemian babes or girly girls. Lace can add a feminine touch to an otherwise structured outfit. Similarly, tartan print or as some people call it, “school girl plaid,“ is not limited to well, school girls. Mixing two different patterns or textures can be frightening at first, but the key is to have one statement piece and rely on the simplicity of the rest of the outfit to let the piece work its magic.
When I spotted this Fashionista, the first thing I noticed was her tartan skirt, a must-have garment and pattern for any closet. With a closer look though, I realized that the bottom of the skirt had some minimal lace brim which just added to the attire. The outfit is very put together, but can easily set this Fashionista apart from the rest.
By keeping it simple with the shoes, this Fashionista doesn’t distract from the star piece as the black pointed toe flats are still sophisticated and chic in every way. They help stray away from the mundane office flat that some lean on when putting together a professional look. Lastly, the flower necklace adds a personal touch for this Fashionista, which in my opinion, is the most important part of every outfit.
If minimal attire isn’t your forte, then try matching this dramatic tartan-lace skirt with a plain black crop top. Adding a skinny black belt to the skirt helps synch the waist for an extra ladylike feel.
