Let’s face it: thrifting isn’t for everyone, or so we think. Shoppers are so caught up with having the latest, trendy clothes that they feel the urge to only shop at well-known fashion brands: Topshop, Forever 21, H&M, Zara, you name it. Most shoppers also want to purchase what hasn’t been worn before, thinking that clothes from thrift shops are either too dirty or damaged. Without even giving it a chance, why do many of us judge the idea so poorly?
Despite the lack of popularity, there are some Fashionistas out there who still believe in the power of second-hand clothes. Today’s Fashionista, who is an upcoming senior at Parsons School of Design, considers herself a huge fan of thrifting. “I’m not flooding with money, but I still want to look fashionable,” she states as she stares down at her shoes. “Thrift shops surprisingly still give you a lot of options to choose from. You’d be surprised!” As an advocate for ready-to-wear clothes, she shows off a comfortable and preppy look with a pop of bright red from her button-up shirt. She styles it with an adorable black circle skirt and gray stockings. To put the outfit all together, she accessorizes with her black glasses and a sporty, drawstring backpack. With the exception of her oxford shoes, she claims everything is purchased from thrift shops. She then politely smiles as she looks down at her outfit.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You just need to have patience to find what it is you are looking for. Or maybe you can find something you never expected and still fall in love with it. That’s the beauty of thrifting.”
