STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: It's All About The Romp

As a natural born and raised Floridian girl, there are trends you can expect to hit every season. As October comes to a close, it is officially deemed “sweater weather” (even though it may still be in the high 70s). December and January welcomes in the mahogany reds, hunter greens and dark browns, along with a plethora of knee-high socks and combat boots. In the short-lived spring season, as it so easily melts into summer, floral dresses in pastel colors sweep the streets right before May hits. Almost immediately, those dresses are ditched for bathing suits and high-waisted shorts as they become the major players of the season.

However, this year, the late spring season brought back with it a fabulous combination of blouses and pants that I personally adore, and that combination is known as the romper. It has all of the familiar perks of dresses: it completely eliminates the need to have to match two separate pieces in order to create an outfit. Additionally, as the romper either ends in shorts or trousers, one no longer needs to fear the summer breeze that us Floridians are so used to fighting in our flowy sundresses.

Many love jumpsuits, as they are extremely comfortable and are oftentimes referred to as pajamas that are socially acceptable to wear in public. With that said, as lovely as rompers can be, that can also be their tremendous downfall. Many mistake the convenience that comes with having an all-in-one piece as not having to put any further effort into the look, even though there is so much that could still be done to really create a special outfit. While walking to an early dinner this particular afternoon, I couldn’t help but take notice that this Fashionista got the look of the romper down pat. While she didn’t overwhelm the lightly patterned jumpsuit with any stand-out accessories or shoes, she kept the look adorably simple with her leather platform wedges and minimalistic jewelry. What I personally loved about her outfit was how it seemed to scream the summer season, as the white linen paired with the soft blue hues hinted at casual boardwalk wear.

She took it a step further by also paying close attention to the small details of her attire. The wedges matched her Marc Jacobs watch perfectly in their shade of caramel brown. While her jewelry mixed metals, it seemed mindful and natural, which only added to the casual feel of her look. All in all, as frustrating as it can be being landlocked in Tallahassee during summer, her outfit gave a fresh new definition to a late afternoon on the town.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Keep things cute and comfy for the summer! Rompers are a great option for this because they are a one and done, pretty and easy, throw on outfit! I love this particular one from J.Crew because I can dress it down and have the perfect laid-back look for summertime, or I can throw some wedges on and dress it up for a night out with friends.”
