Hello fellow fashion lovers! I’m pretty sure that every fashion girl/guy out there has seen and or heard of Gossip Girl and the infamous Blair Waldorf. I have always agreed with her line that “Too much is just the right amount” and have applied that sense of thinking to my life and style. But enough about GG, let’s get to me. My name is Alyssa Portillo and I am currently a Communications major with an emphasis in Public Relations at California State University, Fullerton. Though this is my first semester writing with CollegeFashionista, I am no stranger to giving fashion related advice. I’ve even been guilty of giving out a few pointers when they aren’t wanted!
Fashion for me was a way to create an alter ego for myself throughout high school. I was shy in the sense where I did not say what was on my mind, so I let my personal style do the talking. Now that a few semesters of college and adulthood have passed, I’ve made it apart of my total being. Fashion to me is something that is forever changing, Just like when plaid became polka-dots (which are my favorite!) and then became houndstooth in the print world. There are no rules and no right/wrong way of dressing because it’s all about displaying yourself.
A few years ago, you would of caught me at thrift stores and religiously attending vintage flea markets and expos on the hunt for that one perfect piece like this one, but now I am exploring the need for turning basic staples into fashion forward everyday wear. Everyone needs to own the perfect LBD and have a few extras for back up, am I right? My personal favorites are the “business in the front, party in the back” LBDs.
Summer in California is all year-round, but the months of May through August is when everything gets heated up, including the cool and casual SoCal style. I’m so looking forward to bringing my fellow Fashionistas up to date as to what’s on Trend here in SoCal so stay tuned!
