If you’re anything like me, then spring must be one of your favorite seasons. Going to school in Upstate New York means that you have to be prepared to endure long, harsh winters and all the layering that comes with it. Your hands and toes take a beating and cute outfits become more and more impractical. However, once the groundhog grants us his approval and the first flower bears its head, I run straight to my wardrobe to thaw all the spring outfits I’ve so anxiously been waiting to wear.
Spring is all about breaking out your floral patterns, bright colors and, of course, pastels. Pastels are a great way to revive your winter wardrobe. From peach to lilac to mint, these vibrant colors are a great accessory to any outfit. In fact, it was one of the top trends from this years’ New York Fashion Week. One of my favorite looks from the runway was the Marc Jacobs pink pastel women’s pantsuit. What I admired most about this look was its effortlessness. Though it was undoubtedly a beautiful member of the pastel collection, Marc Jacobs’ choice of a light pearl pink and subtle jewel detailing was a perfect complement to the maturity exuded by any woman in a well-structured pantsuit.
This mellowed approach to wearing pastels was what drew me to this Fashionisto today. He managed to smoothly bring potent pastels right from the runway onto our campus. His abstract black and white T-shirt was the perfect complement to his seafoam green shorts. The detailing in the shirt was just enough of a statement to play up his outfit while simultaneously balancing out the loudness of his exquisite shorts. His boat shoes and gold watch really added to the maturity of the look, while his sunglasses and origami bracelet brought some playfulness back into the outfit. Overall, this outfit is a great way to bring in the spring. Watch out world, this Fashionisto’s style is electric!
One Simple Change: If you’re heading out to dinner or any other formal event, try switching out the abstract T-shirt for a simple button-up. Remember, simple doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t play around with patterns. Whatever shirt you choose, stay away from inconsistent colors and let the patterns do all the talking. Personally, I’d go with a white and black polka-dot button-up to stay true to the vibe of the original look. Nothing screams rad like a guy who knows how to rock polka-dots!
