Every Fashionista has her go-to hairstyle. Whether it’s running the straightener through her hair every morning, throwing it up on top of her head in a messy bun or pushing it back in a headband a la Blair Waldorf, every Fashionista has a specific style she is most comfortable and confident in. We all have those days though when we get bored of our current hair situation and crave something different. When that happens, I am usually contemplating chopping it all off, but settle for something a little less drastic like a high ponytail or a braid. When I say “braid” I am talking about your average, run-of-the-mill, three-part braid. Nothing close to complicated. French braids and fishtails have never been my forte, and I usually end up with a decent sized knot every time I try to pull one off.
When I ran into this Fashionista, I was shocked at the complexity of her braid. From the front it is sleek, but when she turns around it is a combination of two different braids, a double threat. The first braid is a loose, teased version of a Dutch braid, which seamlessly transitions into a fishtail. If this Fashionista’s intricate braid doesn’t give you the slightest bit of hair envy and make you want to practice it in front of your nearest mirror, then I don’t know what will. Both braids alone are ones I have tried to figure out in the past, and seeing them both combined into one beautiful braid makes me want to brave the impending knots and give this look a go.
Another reason I am a huge fan of this Fashionista’s braid is because it is perfect for any event. It can effortlessly transition with you from work during the day to your sushi date with your girlfriends later that night. It is eye-catching, but is not overwhelming in a way that it takes away from any part of your outfit. I especially love how this Fashionista paired her braid with an oversized sweater and ripped jeans. Neither part is fighting for attention; the hairstyle compliments the outfit perfectly.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: This braid wouldn’t be possible without the help of an unlimited amount of hair bands, a light hold hairspray, the perfect brush and a styling cream specifically for your ends. A texturizing spray never hurts, either.
