STYLE GURU STYLE: That's So Fresh

Summer is beautiful in so many ways: the smell of fresh cut grass seems to always be lingering, the birds are constantly chirping and there’s a familiar scent in the air at dusk that immediately brings you back to when times were simple. What is most exciting though, is the new found freedom of your wardrobe; you are no longer a slave to those bulky sweaters and leggings. The time is now to have fun with your sense of style and start experimenting!

Kudos to you if you caught my subtle Mean Girls reference in the title! If it flew right over your head, I promise to try harder next time, but here’s what it’s all about: kate spade’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear line is the epitome of fresh summer fashion. Her use of bold colors and vibrant floral prints evokes a feeling of pure bliss and absolute perfection. Her collection is the ideal source of inspiration for a breezy summer afternoon and I’m going to show you guys how you can recreate her effortless style.

For this look, I channeled my Parisian alter ego and imagined what she would be wearing while sipping a cappuccino outside of a café, patiently waiting for the arrival of her lover. Well, obviously I started with a striped dress as my foundation because what is more French than stripes? Then I worked some florals into my ensemble by draping a thin scarf over my shoulder. The muted colors in the scarf allowed me to add a brilliant pop of color somewhere so I topped this look off with an orange floppy hat. Lastly, I kept it simple by wearing my black sandals and a nude bag so I didn’t go overboard.

There are a ton of ways to have fun during the summer. Let one of them be playing with your style. Try mixing different prints and colors that you wouldn’t normally wear and make some fresh outfits! Find your inspiration and then see how your alter ego would work it.
