STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Summer in the Tropics

What pattern comes to your mind when you think of summer? For me, the top of the list is always tropical. There is nothing more summery than palm trees, pineapples and flamingos. My wardrobe is full of prints like these and I love incorporating them in my warm weather fashion. Although I’m an avid lover of these patterns in bold colors, I know that for others it could be overwhelming. That’s why I love seeing students pull off the tropical trend while still remaining subtle and stylish.

With tropical patterns as very distinct and eye-catching, many people think it’s difficult to wear them as anything but a centerpiece. However, there are various ways to pull off this print without it being the main focus of your look.

An easy way to pull off the tropical look without being too overwhelming is definitely through the color palette. This Fashionista demonstrates this through the contrasts of navy blues, dark greens and pale peach tones of her leaf-printed jumpsuit. Jumpsuits are also a staple for the summer due to their comfort and versatility! A light, cable knit cardigan completely ties the look together, as this Fashionista demonstrates. She dresses her look up with some wedges, but for a more casual look, you could easily throw on some sandals or sneakers.

Accessories are your best friends when experimenting with tropical print! Having the right accessory can add the perfect pop to any outfit without overpowering the whole look. My favorite summer accessories are all about the hair. From headbands to hair ties, these assets are super practical for the hot weather, while still being stylish! Try a bright ribbon on your hat or a scrunchie for the perfect addition of tropics to your outfit.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to experiment with your look this summer. Whether that means switching out solids for prints or doing something completely crazy, summer is the perfect time to do it!”
