Weekend wear is probably one of my favorite styles as you can look presentable without spending two hours on your outfit, hair and makeup. If you’re a baby like me and consider 40 degrees to be freezing, then summer weekend wear is even better since you don’t have to worry about piling on layers of clothing.
With weekend wear, it’s best to pick a few versatile pieces from your closet. A good example of this would be a pair of denim shorts. Denim shorts are a must-have in every girls’ closet as you can wear them to almost any casual event you can think of. The best part? They match everything! You don’t have to worry about matching shades, color contrast or unflattering patterns.
A second versatile piece is a pair of flip flops. If anything, the right pair of flip flops or sandals can be just as versatile as a good pair of denim shorts. They’re so easy to slip on before heading out the door and are perfect for warm weather.
The last versatile piece I would like to mention is a black cardigan, such as the one this Fashionista is wearing. Its neutral color makes it easy to wear with several styles. While this particular style is commonly worn with casual attire, as seen above, it could also be worn over a summer dress for a slightly more formal setting or could make a delightful swimsuit cover-up for a day at the pool.
After selecting a few versatile pieces, adding something more detailed is necessary. The Fashionista’s floral tank top on its own would seem to be more appropriate for skirts or business attire, but when paired with the denim shorts and the black cardigan it becomes more casual and fits the overall look.
For weekend wear, it is crucial to not spend excessive time on your hair and makeup. Pageant perfect curls or bold colored lips would have damaged this look. The Fashionista’s hair is an adorable pixie cut and her makeup is completely natural with the exception of a little eyeliner, which both accentuate this look.
One Simple Change: To transition this outfit from weekend wear to the classroom, just add a big bag. I’m serious! In college you constantly have tons of stuff you have to carry and bring to class each day and a bag makes that so much easier. So pick out a cute bag, pile in your stuff and be on your way!
