Although we’ve been incredibly lucky with summer weather here in New York, these past few days have been cold and rainy, reminding us it’s still technically spring. This Fashionista was smart to give her sandals a day off and break out her Free People booties, along with her classic American Eagle Outfitters jeggings and leather jacket for an extra layer of warmth over her slouchy tee. What caught my eye about her outfit was the subtle circular patterns throughout her whole look. Most obvious are the flat studs covering the outsides of her leather jacket’s sleeves. A similar concept is shown in the perforated “H” symbol on her Hermès satchel. She rocks a cute, solid circular pendant on a simple gold chain. And if you look closely, you’ll see a contrasting pattern along the trim of her booties.
Mixing patterns can be tricky; however, when done right, it can automatically make a simple outfit more exciting without looking like a cartoon character. Whether it be florals and plaid, head to toe stripes or edgy embellishments, the key is finding the right balance.
What makes this Fashionista’s embellishments so successful is the fact that each of them is a different size. Incorporating various scales is how we get that balance we’re looking for. She also complements them with a neutral outfit, which allows the embellishments to stand out without clashing with loud colors.
How To: Are you eyeing a studded leather jacket but have been too afraid to invest in such a trend? Stick to a lower scale of studs that you can easily pair with your wardrobe essentials. Wear it with similar embellishments like this Fashionista or mix it up with your favorite pattern.
