This week, my internship has been crazy. All of the actors in our summer productions have started rehearsals, so the office is packed with talented theater folk. As you can imagine, I’ve gotten to see some great ensembles. Actors don’t tend to shy away from making bold statements.
As someone who works with costumes, one thing I love is when traditionally theatrical garments make their way into mainstream fashion. This Fashionista proves that capes aren’t just for costumes anymore. When paired with the right elements, capes can effortlessly tie an outfit together. Her cuffed gray skinny jeans and black long sleeve T-shirt work well with the rich texture of her wool cape. She adds some large shades and black booties to round out the outfit. I just love how functional this Fashionista’s cape is. It adds weight and texture to the outfit without leaving you stuck wearing the same cardigans over and over again. It’s perfect for those cloudy summer days that dip below 65 degrees. It also has pockets—enough said.
If you want to rock a cape but aren’t feeling a casual look, no worries! Cape dresses combine all the benefits of capes with a more formal look. Throw one on with some stacked bracelets and chunky heels, and you’ll be good to go for a night on the town.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I always dress as though I’ll run into a current boss, someone I want to work with in the future and a friend in the course of a day. I guess you could call my style ‘put together.’ I have run into people I didn’t expect to run into in those moments, and by having this style, my outfits have helped me open doors to new possibilities.”
