WHAT TO WEAR: Interviews

In the last three years of college, I’ve experienced many different kinds of interviews. I’ve sat in group interviews with three or four potential candidates by my side. I’ve sat in solo interviews with a large panel in front of me. I’ve done non-traditional interviews via phone and Skype. In one scenario, I’ve even been the interviewer (which is more pressure than you might guess!)

Preparing for an interview can be tricky, but finding an outfit shouldn’t be. Interview style should be conservative, yet I believe that it’s OK to show a little of your personal style when you enter the room. After all, first impressions are important. Decked out head-to-toe in Express, this Fashionisto is ready to take a seat at the round table. His dark gray suit is sharp, professional and timeless. He chose to pair the suit jacket and pants with a light purple button-down collared shirt, adding a playful pop of color while remaining sophisticated. His patterned tie shows hints of light purple as well. Finally, he opted for black dress shoes, fashionably tying the look together. Fingers crossed this Fashionisto gets the job (although I have a feeling he will)!

One Simple Change: Just finished your interview and want to celebrate your hard work with friends? Stash the jacket and tie in your car, and switch the dress pants for a pair of Vineyard Vines Club pants instead. Opt for a pair of Sperry Top-Siders boat shoes for added comfort and you’re ready for a night of fun and relaxation!
