We saw rich shades of camel and indulgent suede textures glide down the runways for the spring/summer 2015 season. The most notable collections like Chloé and Gucci took us right back to ’70s and to that era where it seemed as though everyone dressed like Velma. These collections featured floaty frocks, loads of fringe and above all else, rich camels hues in everything from knitwear to A-line skirts.
These ’70s-inspired trends seemed to spread like wildfire this spring; all of a sudden everyone was wearing a form of these covetable styles. And while I am most definitely a self-proclaimed trend stalker, monotony gets old pretty quickly, which is why I found this Fashionista’s take to be a breath of fresh air. She makes a winning case for the “new neutrals” like camel and beige, but at the same time, she blends them with her own wardrobe seamlessly. While the lower half of her outfit (camel suede skirt and lace-up heel sandals) embodies the styles of decades past, her moto jacket and silver coin necklace give off a rocker vibe that’s completely her own. I appreciate this authentic approach so much more when getting dressed because, let’s face it, it would be boring if everybody wore the same head to toe ’70s themed outfit (or whichever style is currently trending).
How To: Don’t be afraid to stray from the mass trend following pack if your personal style clashes with the season’s overall mood. My advice is to always stay true to your unique tastes. Take a cue from this Fashionista and choose an element from the latest trends that speaks to you most—for her, it was spring’s rich textures and colors that she effortlessly mixed with the more edgy style she’s used to.
