Leather is back and has never been better! Did you think it was only okay to deck out in head-to-toe leather when dressed as cat woman on Halloween? Or that it was exclusively socially acceptable when the shiny material served as a small accent? Well, think again! Adam Lippes resort 2016 collection proved you (and me) wrong. Lippes dominated the runway with leather everything: pants, shirts, trench coats and even overalls. The oh-so-virtuoso designer adeptly combined light and angelic with edgy and trendy. He graced the catwalk with loose, ivory culottes to fierce, army green trenches—truly offering the best of both worlds. The long-gone, glitter-loving Hannah Montana said, “Chill it out and take it slow, then rock out the show.” This resort 2016 series does just that and has the makings of an amazing dynamic duo…fashion edition.
I absolutely adored the playful use of color and material, so I decided to pull from multiple looks. First, I drew from the lighter side, pulling off a textured, cream blouse from Francesca’s. The summery and easy-going nature of the top juxtaposed my army, pleather skirt. I polished off the outfit with a pair of woven, Steve Madden wedges and a patent Chanel bag. My Style Guru attire is ladylike and stylish yet refined—my personal preference.
Creating a new, no-sweat outfit is the optimal prize for a Fashionista, surely putting a smile on my face. Well, I mean, the smile could be courtesy a la Chanel…both tend to have the same effect. Regardless, these threads would not have found their happily-ever-after without the innovative inspiration of Adam Lippes. Who ever would have thought green leather would make a comeback? And no, Oscar the Grouch does not count.
