STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Kickin' Kimonos

In the words of Marc Jacobs, “We don’t need fashion to survive, we just desire it so much.”

Now that we are in the midst of festival season, kimonos have become increasingly popular. Dating back from 794 AD kimonos are traditional Japanese garments. The word kimono actually translates to “thing to wear”. Kimono’s gained popularity back in 2014 and have now become staples in all Fashionista/os’ wardrobe. With so many different cuts, patterns and trims you are sure to find one that fits your style aesthetic.

The great thing about kimonos is their versatility. Not only can they look casual thrown over high-waisted jean shorts and a crop-top, but they can also be dressed up when worn with a printed maxi dress and wedge heels. Kick a basic outfit up a notch by adding a colorful printed or embroidered kimono, or keep your kimono simple and pair it with a printed dress or romper.

This Fashionista chose to leave her outfit simple and let her kimono and accessories do all the talking. She paired a plain black blouse with dark wash skinny jeans. Her long kimono’s tassel hem gives the outfit a bohemian look while her blue-jeweled necklace helps bring out the blue embroidery at the bottom of the kimono. Simple brown leather sandals keep with the bohemian theme. Her unique gold stone bracelets and sacked rings are the perfect final touch.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You should never be afraid to take risks in fashion. Always try and be experimental with your style. You never know what new things you may discover.”
