STYLE GURU STYLE: Snow White and Leather Luxe

My favorite thing about a good black and white palette is it will never lead an outfit astray. But if we can learn anything from the Louis Vuitton fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, it’s that texture is a great way to keep the classic color combo looking fashion forward.

Sleek silhouettes, tailored separates and hints of metallic gave the show an element of the futuristic. The collection overall relied on neutral tones, with the occasional pop of colour, and an array of prints. Standout pieces include tight ribbed knits featuring a cut out above the bust and fluted hems and cuffs, jackets and blouses with mutton sleeves reminiscent of the 1800s and vanity trunks in glass, aluminium and copper. What really caught my eye was the combination of heavy white fur coats and simple black leather.

To take this look from the runway to the street (well, university) I stuck to the same black and white combination and focused on texture in a more wearable way. Deciding that faux is the way to go, I opted for a chunky white knit and some PU leather shorts, tucking in the front of my sweater to give it some shape. Keeping to the look of the Louis Vuitton collection, I accessorized with my go-to pair of neutral wedge ankle boots. For jewelry, my dainty gold rings are a nod to the delicate gold chain belts; the oversize watch is my own take on the trend.

If you’re anything like me and tend to play it safe with black and white, take some inspiration from the runway and use texture to mix things up! I’m a little obsessed with pairing a toasty sweater and cute shorts for fall, and as it heads well into winter down here in Australia, all I have to do is layer a pair of black tights underneath—it’s a look I’ll be wearing all year-round!

Get My Look: 1. A white sweater. 2. Some black leather shorts. 3. Heeled ankle boots.
