STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: That '90s Chick

The ’90s have slowly, but surely made their way back into modern-day society. Whether it’s Dr. Martens, fanny packs or the Full House spinoff, the ’90s have taken over. Ladies and gents, it’s time to visit your mom and dad’s closets because all that stuff you once thought was outdated is now a hot, new trend.

Some trends are timeless. Others come back with a slight reinvention. In this case, flannels are back and definitely leaving a mark. Celebrities from Rihanna to Jared Leto and your average street walker have all been incorporating flannels into their outfits by tying it around their waists. This ’90s style was originally used for convenience. What do you do with your sweater when it’s hot and it’s no longer in use? You tie it around your waist. As a ’90s kid, I vividly recall that all my sweaters and jackets were tied around my waist because who would ever want to hold them? Fast forward to 2015 and this trend is no longer just practical, it’s fashionable! Hot or cold, we have that flannel tied around our waists.

Not going to lie, flannels remind me of lumberjacks. It took me a while to warm up to them, but now I am an avid flannel wearer. It is such an easy, effortless look, but also very fashion-forward. I am currently obsessed (for a lack of a better word) with The Vintage Twin flannels. They are reworked vintage pieces that are one of a kind! As in no one else will have the same flannel as you. If that isn’t a dream come true, I don’t know what is.

Walking around the fashion mecca that is New York City, I encountered this Fashionista sporting a hot, new (but not so new) piece of clothing. As a leather jacket enthusiast, I absolutely loved that she added one to her outfit. The leather jacket adds a rocker-chic touch to it all. She also wore a black tank top knotted to appear like a crop top, light wash hip-hugger jeans and some faux leather booties.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My advice would be to wear the flannel with any type of outfit! Yes, it can be a very casual look, but pair it up with a midi dress and you have a very chic look.”
