As college students we enroll in the challenging classes, join an abundance of clubs, meet the right people (since it’s not what you know but who you know!) all in hopes to land our dream job once we’re done with school. So, you worked hard all year and now you want to relax for the summer time. But we can’t just chill all summer—it’s internship season! Internships are a great step in the right direction for your career. It’s also a great way to decide if this is the field you want to spend the rest of your life in (no pressure). This Fashionista landed not one, but two internships this summer! She needs to look professional but young and eager to get the job done all while making a lasting statement in the business world. Let’s have this Fashionista show us how to dress for a business casual NYC music internship.
I have one word for all of you: blazers. Blazers are a classic tailored piece that you can add over any top to make you look professional. This is a black contemporary piece that can be found at Forever 21. Underneath the blazer she wears a cotton Nordstrom Rack T-shirt that adds comfort to her structured jacket and shorts. Her shorts are nude with a white trim. They are long enough to be appropriate for a work environment but short enough to keep her cool from the heat. They are a great choice and can be found at Banana Republic.
My favorite part of this Fashionista’s outfit is her statement necklace. Details are very important when it comes to a trendy outfit. Statement necklaces give outfits a unique and confident touch. They allow you to stand out and demand attention. I suggest purchasing a similar stone cluster statement necklace at either Nordstrom Rack or Topshop. These necklaces are both professional and super fun! Other jewelry this Fashionista added were a rose gold Fossil watch, a Pandora bracelet and a cat ring.
To accessorize she added a black messenger bag big enough to hold all her work necessities. This black faux leather bag with gold zippers can be found at Nordstrom Rack. Her shoes were strappy black wedges with a gold buckle to match her bag. Wedges are a good idea because they will not hurt your feet if you will be working all day. Instead of wearing sandals heels add a touch of maturity.
How To: When dressing for you internship make sure you look professional. A black or navy blazer shows structure and is a great choice. Make sure you add a statement necklace to your outfit. Going the extra mile by adding certain jewelry pieces shows you care about you appearance and you can be taken seriously.
