One of my favorite ways to beat the heat and keep my hair out of my face is to braid it back. Summertime bangs become my enemy, and the humidity and wind have a tendency to break through even the strongest of hairsprays. This Fashionista is wearing a simple, three-stranded braid, starting from the heavy side of her part and reaching down to the ends of her hair. She started her braid by using her bangs and wispy hairs to create a tousled and effortless look.
Our Fashionista only used a small amount of hair, but had a secret method that created a braid that is full of body. She shared with me that once you finish, if you slightly pull the pieces of the braid apart, it gives your braid the illusion that you used a large chunk of hair. This works great on people with thin or fine hair; you only have to use a small section of hair for the braided piece and can still have the rest of your hair to style. This method adds a great touch to fishtail braids, french braids, Dutch braids and waterfall braids.
In order for your braid to be big and bold, you need a good texture spray. This Fashionista’s favorite is Fave4’s Texture Takeover. You can use this spray beforehand if you have soft or silky hair so that it gives your hair the added texture that’s needed to keep a braid in place. It is also a great finishing spray to give your hair a messy finish.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To recreate this look, you will need one clear elastic hair band and a good texture spray. Try to pull your braid apart and watch how it can transform a normal braid into something very unique.
