“Wah Gwan?”
After meeting me in my STYLE GURU BIO, you now know this is the way we greet each other in true Jamaican style. The past three weeks we took to the streets to observe the college fashion scene. We collected snippets of spring/summer 2015 style through the eyes of our new Fashionista/o friends. This week we are back in my closet! Today I am dishing sass with a hearty serving of denim.
That’s right, I had to show you how I fashioned the denim-on-denim trend. When I first decided to dabble in denim I did not know exactly what to expect. I did know, however, I wanted the look to be effortless and fierce.
London designers Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida took to Rio de Janeiro to shoot their Marques’Almeida resort 2016 collection. Marques’Almeida uses one wash of light denim to create several monochrome ensembles. Similar to Rio’s rugged infrastructure, the two designers added dimension to the garments with distressed ruffled detailing. To contrast the limitlessness of the denim looks, Marques’Almeida added an air of elegance with barely there heels.
I was inspired by this resort collection to balance the elements of ruggedness and sophistication in my denim look.This was fairly easy as I love to add my feminine touch to masculine attire.
In order to achieve the effortless look desired, I decided to mix two shades of light washed denim. My favorite pair of distressed boyfriend jeans was the perfect match for the look. I decided to leave this loosely fitted denim shirt half unbuttoned as a complement to the distressed holes of my jeans. To confine the look, I added a pair of caged heels.
My innate island vibrations made me feel irie today. I grabbed a pair of reddish-orange mirrored shades to channel this copacetic energy. I will admit, these shades added the ultimate touch of fierceness I needed to top the look.
