My inspiration for this outfit comes from the Donna Karan runway show for spring 2015. The entire show was based around skirts and dresses that hit at the calf, with fun patterns and were paired with statement belts. All the tops were simple and kept the focus on the skirt or bottom half of the outfit.
I love the length of this skirt. I think it feminine, fun and flirty. I especially love skirts that have a detailed waist like this one and the ones in the Donna Karan show. Detailed waistbands are a girls best friend because they highlight the smallest part of you.
At first I was hesitant when trying to wear a skirt this length because of my petite stature. However, I found pairing a skirt this length with a small kitten heel and a tighter fitting top actually made me appear longer. I wore minimal accessories because I felt like the skirt made a big enough statement on its own. I wore simple makeup and pulled the blue from my skirt together with my sunglasses. The black from the belt matches my shoes to create a cohesive look.
My look is a very simple one to pull off. My skirt is from a boutique here in New York City but there is a similar one available at J.Crew. This skirt doesn’t have a belt but you could add one one your own. My top is a simple white halter. My shoes are vintage Chanel I found when I was in Paris but any kitten heel will do. Finally my sunglasses can be found at Tory Burch.
