Did you know that some of the most beautiful, stylish and driven people go to my school? This Fashionisto is one of many and has found himself in New York City this summer as an intern for Ebony Magazine (woot, woot)! On his days off, he enjoys modeling, networking, hanging out with friends and exploring all that this city has to offer. Today, I caught him on a foggy, rainy day, but he managed to brighten it up with his outfit and infectious personality. We conversed while he wore his Converse, prepared for any weather.
If you’re anything like me, the iPhone weather app and your window are your go-to’s for outfit inspiration. However, the weather has been wishy-washy in NYC this summer. Most days are cold, some days get too hot and, lately, the rain has been coming to wash that away pretty often. When your iPhone app says 66-degrees, your heart says, “But, it’s summer!” When the sky says, “No, no, no. Not today,” you come prepared like this Fashionisto did; prepared for rain, prepared for warm weather and prepared to drop your umbrella and pose for the camera.
What I admire most about this Fashionisto’s outfit is that it is unisex. I found myself trying to put it together for myself in my head with items I already own. A basic, patterned button-down, skinny jeans and a baseball cap; a sweet, simple, stylish look fit for just about anything. Converse are a timeless shoe that can be worn to/for almost any occasion. These classic shoes went from being a basketball shoe in the early 20th century to an everyday shoe loved by people of all ages. Yes, most of them are made of canvas, but wouldn’t you rather get your canvas shoes (that will be dry by tomorrow) soaked than your new sneakers?
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Always come prepared. If your city is anything like New York this summer, don’t believe that clear sky in the morning when your iPhone app says it’s going to rain. Your outfit won’t be ruined because Converse go with everything. Play it safe and keep it cute.”
