STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Destressed Over Shorts

When it’s hot and humid in the city, the last thing that I want to be wearing is a pair of hot, sweaty jeans. So I always reach for my shorts when getting ready in the morning. They have made a real comeback in the last few years. There lots of different styles to choose from: high-waisted, printed, runner shorts and the loose fitting ones. No matter where I am, downtown or hanging out at the beach, denim shorts seem to be the most popular choice with Fashionistas. Shorts are a casual and an easy fit, which provides endless outfit choices.

Fashionista are always looking to the past for inspiration and trends that always last. Denim shorts first reached popularity during the ‘90s as grunge era was in full swing. Calvin Klein and his muse Kate Moss popularized this style. They are easy to pair with an oversized plaid shirt over a white crop top. The denim shorts now sold by Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie echo designs from the past: stone washed, ripped, and splattered with bleach. These added details provides interest and makes each piece different and unique.

This Fashionista chose to wear her distressed denim shorts with a basic, black T-shirt that was tucked into her shorts. To complete the look she paired it with black ankle booties. A sharp look! Inspired by the ‘90s theme the ankle boot is a great alternative, because it adds a bit of edginess to the outfit. The key here is simplicity.

Don’t have a pair of denim shorts. They are easy to DIY! Just cut up a pair of jeans to your desired length and have fun distressing them with a scissors sanding paper and bleach.

What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Shorts are an essential part of my summer wardrobe. To allow the shorts to be the focal point of my outfit I tend to tuck them in my shirt so that the shorts are not covered up.”
