It is late June, when the really hot days of summer are rolling in faster than you can say “hot potato.” And that’s about how you feel whenever you venture out of your air conditioned refuge—wrapped in tin foil, baking to the core on a hot oven rack—as you blaze your path beneath the sun.
Needless to say, a hot day in the summer poses many problems for a Fashionista/o. One of the biggest for me is my love for wearing the color black. It is slimming, always in and matches everything you throw at it (except brown—never brown—this is one of my biggest pet peeves ever). Take, for example, my passion for black leather shoes. In the winter I am constantly wearing my black combat boots or my black ankle booties, and in the summer I find myself missing them like crazy when I am forced to opt for cooler alternatives.
So how about that chunky heeled, black ankle bootie pictured in the featured outfit above? You know the one: currently all the rage, with the cutout on the heel, the open toe and the strap around the ankle. I believe it just might be the perfect interpretation of a summer boot, something I have been searching for, for a long time. While some may not mind the heat that accompanies combat boots with socks or thick leather booties, I say, “Why suffer?” Why not opt instead for this equally, if not more, stylish and more comfortable version?
Of course, for this Fashionista the boots are just one part of the complete package. She cleverly pairs them with a bright floral and white T-shirt dress, a black and white necklace, a few rings and, to top it all off, a spot-on application of nail polish.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t let the summer heat stop you. Use the heat to find new outfits and different ways of wearing things!”
