Fringe, fur, floral jacquard; welcome these ’70s glamorous appeals back into your life. Stacey Bendet, the woman behind alice + olivia, brings us back to the mod ’60s and bohemian luxury looks of the ’70s in her fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Think rich romanticism and glamorous dramatics.
Over-the-knee boots showed prevalence throughout the show being a part of more than half the outfits. I’m reluctant to say I’ve been a fan of this emerging trend since I saw it worn by one of the Kardashians, so now alice + olivia has given me a less shameful reason to try it out. I found the black boots I’m wearing in the back of my bursting closet after about five years of no use. I know hoarding is a bad habit that I should probably work on, but at least I’m getting a little more use out of some cute boots, right? Plus, I probably won’t work on it.
The rest of my outfit was found at a Salvation Army. The button-up has a baroque pattern that could be confused with patterns found in the collection. The difference is that my look isn’t as stimulating, metallic or clearly as expensive, especially with a button and a half missing. The mini dress I wore keeps up with the black and gold color scheme and has a punch of mod. A high collared necklace gave my outfit the drama inspired by the collection.
Although this collection is extravagant and glamorous in a way that may be challenging to translate to every day wear, the trends to take away are over-the-knee boots, rich and combined textures and metallic embellished anything. For summer, keep it light with a pair of alice + olivia patterned shorts or embroidered mini dress.
