Everyone is aware of and embracing the athletic trend that has exploded within the past year. Tennis shoes and joggers are becoming go-to staples. What’s not to love about that? The athleisure look made its mark on the street and is now being incorporated on the runways by both contemporary and couture designers.
Alexander Wang’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection was definitely a standout for me this season. The sportswear designer uses shoes by Nike and adidas as inspiration for his garments. Nike Flyknits are reimagined by Wang into bright, bodycon dresses while adidas’ classic white and green striped shoes are interpreted into tennis dresses. Mesh, Neoprene and sleek cutouts are all integrated, as seen in look 24 of the collection.
I love the innovative designs Wang has created with such athletic-inspired materials. The structure and texture he accomplishes with neoprene and mesh is incredible. Although I have not yet invested in a Wang original, I have undeniably been inspired by this trend. High-top sneakers, T-shirts and contrasting colors have been the bulk of my wardrobe this spring.
This week Alexander Wang’s collection inspired my easy, monochromatic athletic look. The New Balance sneakers have been my most recent purchase and obsession. They are so comfortable and can be thrown on with any outfit for a sporty, dress-down look. The black joggers and jersey T-shirt correlate with Wang’s bold use of black and white. I topped the look off with minimalistic gold bracelets to complement the cool and casual aesthetic.
