When it comes to everyday wear, I tend to stick to the basics—a simple solid colored top, denim bottoms and my trusty Rainbow sandals. It’s an easy outfit for the hot California weather. This style always ends up looking cool and casual. Some days though, like this one, I like to switch it up a bit and throw on a trendier, somewhat edgier outfit.
As I’ve mentioned in a previous CollegeFashionista post focused on “fun pants,” trends from the ’70s are coming back stronger than ever, and colored suede is just another example. This look was inspired by the Jason Wu spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, which features one of my favorite re-vamped trends, colored suede.
My goal with this outfit was to give an on-trend spin to a traditional summer outfit. I achieved this look by combining a summer classic—denim cut-offs with a moss green halter top and nude wrap around sandals. The top gives off an “artsy” vibe, exposing skin with the crossed cutout at the bottom, and works with Wu’s goal of being effortlessly chic all whilst remaining a great summer staple. To add to the look, I wore a pair of round brown ombre sunglasses from Urban Outfitters that also give off a vintage vibe and topped off my look with a bit pretty nude-pink lipstick from NARS.
Denim will always be a summer favorite, so it’s fun to dress it up every now and then with summer’s latest trends whether it be colored suede, fringe, or even a fun bikini top. Together, these specific pieces create a cool, vintage vibe similar to the one that the instant pictures from my Fujifilm Instax 8 camera have (which is my real summer 2015 aesthetic).
