STYLE GURU STYLE: Denim, Denim and More Denim

Where did our hot and sunny days in Toronto go? Looking on the bright side these grey, gloomy skies put me in the mood to wear my favourite pair of jeans. The Fendi spring ready-to-wear 2015 collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld featured lots of highly structured, pattern designs in dark blues, browns and blacks. He moves fluidly through different looks and styles: initially soft, feminine dresses are then a more edgier yet relaxed look with slouchy pants and leather jackets.

One of my favorite looks from the show was the loose denim pant paired with a matching denim shirt. Simple lines and a layering affect on the top added complexity to the shirt. As a Canadian I am always trying to find a tasteful, yet stylish Canadian Tuxedo, but without looking like Brittany Spears and Justin Timberlake circa 2001. By using the same wash without patches and embellishments it creates a seamless, clean look.

For my outfit, which was inspired by the Fendi show I opted to wear a pair of cropped, black jeans with a light chambray shirt in a medium, blue wash. A lighter fabric, such as chambray, is a great alternative to denim for the summer, because it ensures that you do not over heat, while giving that denim feel. By choosing to go for a different color wash than the jeans it lets the denim pieces stand out and create a more fluid feel.

To finish it off I choose to wear a pair of bright, red flats and a raincoat to offset the denim, while still staying dry! I also added a pair of gem stone earrings and a tan brown watch. Switching out different accessories like the watch for stacked bracelets can mix up this denim look. I think that denim on denim is a great effortless and tasteful look that can be worn any time, any where.

Get My Look: 1. A pair of jeans. 2. A chambray shirt.  3. Flats.
