STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Sundress City

I’m a complete and total girly girl. However, I’ve realized I almost never wear dresses and the reason for that is still unknown to me considering I have a whole section in my closet dedicated to them. Thinking about it, I probably don’t because I look at dresses as being so formal and dressy. I look at them as something I should save for a “special occasion” like a dinner date or party when that’s certainly not the only places dresses were designed to be worn.

I realize I need to break out of this stigma towards dresses and also realized summer is a great time to do so. Sundresses are about to become my new favorite piece for a few reasons: because they are effortless, comfortable, can be dressed up or down and they’re not unbearable to wear in the heat of July. What is not to love about being able to grab an item from your wardrobe, throwing it on with a pair of your favorite shoes and still look flawless because you don’t feel like you’re about to sweat all of your makeup off you worked so hard to put on. Sounds like perfection to me.

A great thing about sundresses is they’re incredibly easy to find. Many brands make them, tons of stores carry them and you can find them in a lot of styles and price points. Sundresses are nice because they can be appropriate at a range of various settings. Like a cotton garment could pass off as a pool cover up to the higher quality dress you’ve been daydreaming about to wear to this years Carolina Cup. Luckily, this Fashionista found the perfect sundress for the many events she has going on this summer. The Fashionista found her purple paisley piece at Express which is always an excellent choice for more professional or formal attire. She paired the dress with nude-colored wedges and a similar matching nude bag from Target. The Fashionista accessorized with her favorite sentimental jewelry, including a silver chain cross necklace, a charm bracelet from Pandora, an Alex and Ani bracelet and class ring.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “A dress normally goes with any occasion whether it’s a dressy sundress or more Plain Jane. Try to do something different the next time you’re getting ready and get stuck on what to wear. You never know when a sundress might surprise you and be just what you need.”
