STYLE GURU STYLE: Floral Fashionista

Ever since I was young, I had an obsession with anything and everything to do with flowers. I had to cut every flower from my grandma’s garden to put in my own room, only for them to die two days later. But the biggest dream for my five-year-old self was becoming a flower girl and while this became a reality soon enough, I couldn’t kick the thrill of the dresses or the title. Henceforth, when I walked into my sister’s room and found this breezy, floral dress she had been sewing, I knew I had to take it for a spin.

When I first pulled the dress on, I was surprised by how colourful the print was and then was reminded of the recent resort 2016 collection by Andrew Gn. The collection was filled with florals, replicating a small garden when placed side by side. But it wasn’t just the plethora of styles and colour combinations that made it a standout collection, but rather the fabrics and textiles used. Everything from clustered sequins to lavish embroidery was present, taking a simple garment and transforming it into a statement piece. Another noticeable feature of the collection is the timelessness of each individual piece, made with a modest length and versatile wear.

For my own spin on this collection, I wore a brightly coloured, floral dress with a midi hemline. I threw on cognac brown sandals in order to keep the focus on the dress and add a summery touch. Since this day was a little chillier, a denim jacket was necessary. Although it’s not a Gn jacket, a denim jacket should be a staple in every women’s closet. In order to complete the outfit, I kept my hair simple and back in a braided bun.
