STYLE GURU STYLE: I'll Pencil You In

I love skirts just as much as the next girl, but as pencil skirts came back into style this season, I never really knew how to wear one without looking too much like a businesswoman. Don’t get me wrong, I love the classic button-down and pencil skirt look for the office, but as a college student, I didn’t see that style too often. Once in a while, I would see a super-stylish girl wearing a pencil skirt out to parties looking fabulous. So when I saw the Rachel Zoe spring 2015 ready-to wear collection, I found the perfect inspiration outfit to wear out.

When I saw this RAD look, it immediately sparked an outfit idea for myself. My mom had given me an old skirt of hers and I had yet to wear it because I didn’t know what to pair it with but this outfit really inspired me. Rachel Zoe’s collection is mostly blacks and whites with patterns (houndstooth, lace, etc.) and to me it is very retro.

So I used a retro piece of my own, my mom’s leather pencil skirt, and paired it with ankle strap black heels. As far as a top goes, I love black and white together and it totally worked for her collection, but I do love color. So I paired the skirt with this floral red crop top (I love red and black together too!). I added a white cross-body bag and it felt like I just walked off the runway!

Get My Look: 1. Flowy top (cropped or can easily be tucked in…body suits are great!). 2. A pencil skirt (leather or not). 3. Ankle-strap heels.
