“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” —Miranda Priestley.
I swear, Miranda Priestley lives in my head. Every time I slip on a floral garment, this snarky, sarcastic The Devil Wears Prada quote sounds off and I immediately begin to question everything I thought I knew about fashion/myself/life. Of course, one could never tire of the pretentious Mrs. Priestly chastising an unimaginative subordinate’s idea and, sure, she has a point. But in times like these, it’s a relief to remember that Miranda Priestly is not a real person and designer Thakoon Panichgul is, and thank God, because this year he proved that, yes, florals can be groundbreaking.
Late last year, Thakoon revealed it’s resort 2015 collection which showcased a beautiful union between patterns and fabrics, texture and structure, and light and dark colors. Among the stripes and variations of blue, the floral pieces are perhaps the ones that stand out the most and are certainly the most recognizable. The fabric used in these pieces feature red and white flowers that rest with their lengthy leaves on top of a white background. Other designers such as Miu Miu and Céline should be given credit for also playing with florals for their spring/summer 2015 collections, but for this particular look, I mainly pulled from Thakoon’s prints.
Do you remember when I said I’m not usually one for bright colors? Well, I still don’t feel totally comfortable saying that I am (just counted- I have a grand total of three bright tops), but whenever I do go bright, I like to do it right, girlfrieeend! *Sassy girl emoji*
For this look, I wore light floral pants in lieu of Thakoon and paired it with a bright green top and cobalt blue purse (a nod to Marni’s bold pieces). The pants were a lucky Forever 21 find from a couple years back and I’ve lovingly given them the title of grandma pants (my grandma had great taste). They’re a definite favorite! My shirt is from Topshop and I love it because of it’s structure. Because of the cut, the material sits perfectly on the body and always looks good! I threw on some nude heels. By “threw on,” I mean “methodically and painfully maneuvered my toes into place.” Pointed-toe shoes are no joke. I painted my lips with a bright orangey-red color that complemented my pants. With so much to look at within the clothing itself, I stuck to the bare minimum when it came to accessories, only adding a pair of simple black shades.
Get My Look: 1. Floral pants. 2. Small blue purse. 3. Nude heels. 4. Bright lip color. 5. Black sunglasses.
