A Fashionista with a true punk style is hard to find. Often, Fashionista’s will opt out of the full style and instead just take a smudge of it. For instance, instead of wearing my Dr. Martens with distressed denim, a punk band T-shirt, a leather jacket and studded accessories; I choose to wear my Dr. Martens with a floral dress.
This Fashionista had guts and displayed it with her amazing style and creative details. The scuffed red converse, purple rabbit tail (for good luck, of course) and round sunglasses are just some of the punk details added to her outfit for pops of color and texture.
The punk style was on rehashed on the runway in fall 2013 by several designers like Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Chanel and Versace. Since then the trickle down effect has been highly effective and punk has been brought to fast fashion, making it accessible to consumers across the globe. It has also since been mixed with ’90s grunge fashion, adding more ease and wearability to the trend.
Personally, when I go for the punk look, I wear a concert T-shirt, a flannel button-up tied at my waist and a leather jacket to distressed jeans.
How To: I encourage all of you to add a bit of her edge to your outfit, especially with distressed garments. Personally, I enjoy the trend since I often fall and distress my clothing and accessories without meaning to. Distressed denim is a great way to dip your toe into the edgy punk trend with diving all the way in. Who knows, you might even find yourself falling in love with a new style.
