When it comes to date night, dressing to impress is clearly a must. Though I would much rather cancel than try and find something to wear that is flattering, but not too flashy, cute but not too trendy, feminine but not too young. Blind to your significant other’s tastes and thoughts and try and avoid looking like you actually spent those three hours getting ready by simply wearing navy. Navy sets that cool, understated tone you strive for when enticing someone new.
Chitose Abe, the creative director of Sacai’s resort 2016 collection, epitomizes this soft, yet statement look with her keen eye for A-lines and use of dark colors. Not only did an A-line create a pleasant outline for an essentially square romper, but the choice to incorporate such a rich color gave my outfit just the right amount of effortless glamor that Abe intended. Not to mention, Abe’s decision to pair her look with a tan shoe allows it to glide past typical nautical stereotypes into uncharted territories.
Inspired by Sacai’s wave stirring ways, I opted for a navy button-down romper, because nothing says sophistication like buttons. Going for simple elegance, I wore a dainty sapphire ring and a brass arrow necklace that I designed myself in my studio. To funk up my look, I added a pair of thick heeled peep-toe camel slingbacks, as well as a diagonal assortment of midi and regular sized rings that varied in smooth and twisted textures. Lastly for a touch of sexy librarian, I wore my oversized prescription lenses.
