BEAUTY BAR: Totally Beachin'

What does Wisconsin have in common with the beautiful beaches of California? Well, it’s certainly not the salty air or sun-kissed skin. It’s the beach waves (in hair, that is). We may not be able to spend the day out in the cool ocean waters to get that perfect look that only sea salt can provide, but that doesn’t stop us from rocking some gorgeous beachy texture nonetheless. Beach waves are the quintessential hairstyle for summer. They look effortless and carefree but at the same time pretty and put together. Beach waves are perfect because they are super low maintenance and actually get better as the day goes on and nature takes its course on your tousled waves.

I spotted this Fashionista and was in awe of her hair. She could have fooled me into thinking she just stepped out of the ocean to stroll the streets of Milwaukee, but then I remembered that there isn’t an ocean nearby so she perfected her waves in some other way. There are a few easy ways to get this look if you cannot get authentic waves by sitting at the beach. A very simple way to do this is to prepare your waves before you go to bed when your hair is damp or wet. Simply twist your hair into sections, remembering that the smaller the section, the tighter the twist, the curlier the wave. Then, spray a sea salt-based spray throughout your hair. Take the sections and wrap them up into a bun on your head. Let this sit overnight and wake up with killer beach waves! Of course, if rocking beach waves is a last minute decision you make in the morning, you can follow this routine in a timely manner and just add extra hair spray at the end to hold the waves.

This Fashionista completed her beachy look by wearing a 1970s-inspired black jumpsuit, classic wedge sandals and a gemstone choker. Her whole look is cool and casual and it is topped off with her amazing beach waves.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? All you need to get perfect beach waves is a good sea salt spray for your hair. One that works really well is John Frieda’s Beach Blonde Sea Waves Salt Spray. It will give you that perfect tousled texture and it even smells like coconut so you will feel right at the beach.
